Frequently Asked Questions

We will gladly field any question you may have with regards to Kym's Kids of San Antonio that are not addressed below by emailing Questions@KymsKidsSA.org.

Who can join?

Currently, Kym's Kids is open to students in the 8th through 12th grade. We are working on creating a Kym's Kids College Alum and will announce when that is ready and online.

Why are grades, attendance and behavior the measurements you track?

Kym's Kids wants our students to succeed. While we will support our youth with programs that can help with their success, it is ultimately the student's responsibility to step up and take ownership of their own performance. Grades and attendance are easy measures to track. Behavior is the input that is reported back to us from school counselors and teachers. A student that is attending school, applying themselves and is attentive in their classroom is going to have a much better chance at succeeding.

What schools are you currently working with?

We are not restricted to any single school. Our program is open to any student (given that there is an available slot in our program) that is willing to step up to meet the challenge of being a Kym's Kid.

Who chooses who gets to join the group?

We have an independent committee that reviews all applications and selects from that group the individuals that will participate in our program.

How do the partnerships with the other agencies work?

Currently Kym's Kids of San Antonio is partnered with The Carver Academy, City Year San Antonio, Communities in Schools, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio and KIPP Prep Academy. These agencies nominate and submit to Kym's Kids, students that are part of their individual programs that the agencies want to have be a part of ours. The agencies track performance for their students and help engage those students in structured volunteer activities that the agencies themselves lead in the community or with events that Kym's Kids hosts.

How can I volunteer to be a part of Kym's Kids?

Kym's Kids of San Antonio is always looking for both individuals and agencies that we can partner with. Individuals will have to pass a background screening to be eligible and submit all necessary documents and waivers before being able to participate. Agencies, whether corporate volunteer councils or other service organizations can contact us to explore avenues of involvement that all lead to the individual success of the Kym's Kid student as well as the overall betterment of the community.

How can I donate?

Kym's Kids of San Antonio welcomes the support from the community. If you want to assist us monetarily, please see our Donations page. If you have material goods that you are seeking to donate, please contact our office or send an email to Questions@KymsKidsSA.org to make arrangements.

What types of volunteer events do you participate in?

At Kym's Kids of San Antonio, we have to be mindful of our students abilities because we serve such a broad age group of youth participants. Our goal for Kym's Kids students is to identify volunteer events that engage them in the ability to create positive impact in the community. So whether it is helping an elderly homeowner with some minor repairs and cleanup of their homestead, feeding the needy or reading at a local library to children, our students are committed to creating the type of change that needs to happen here in our city.
